Slow Food Nation
Labor Day Weekend 2008 - San Francisco
We were fortunate to attend Slow Food Nation and the National Congress for Slow Food leaders over Labor Day 2008 weekend in San Francisco, which celebrated the birth of a broad and inclusive food movement to build a better American food system.

We attended a “Food for Thought” discussion with Alice Waters, Carlo Petrini, Michael Pollan and others, a video of which may be viewed at slowfood nation.org. We also attended several other workshops, including one given by Chef Ann Cooper and Deborah Madison on school lunch programs.

One of the highlights was a delicious open-air dinner for 500 people, served around the Victory Garden at the Civic Center. Another highlight were the Taste Pavilions, which featured regional American foods, including cheese from Art Ludlow’s Mecox Dairy, honey from Mary Woltz’s Bees' Needs and many East End wines, such as Charles and Ursula Massoud’s Paumanok Vineyards, Channing Daughters and Shinn Estate.

The plan is to hold another Slow Food Nation event, and we hope that more of our members will attend. Slow Food Nation was an overwhelming success!
